I've started using Bikely as it seems to be more responsive for longer routes; useful since 30m is the new 20m after last weekend :-)

Have you checked out mapmyride in the last few days? We recently released a new version of the mapping tool that should be much faster for longer routes. I encourage you to give it a spin and let us know what you think.
Just as Jeff says, the new mapmyride is significantly improved. A 40 mile route renders much more quickly, and there are nice new features like Marker Notes (printable soon?) and variable spacing mile marks.
